Ignaz Semmelweis was a Hungarian physician in the 19th century who found that handwashing significantly reduced the incidence of puerperal fever among postpartum women. Despite the clear success of his methods - his patients stopped dying - he faced strong resistance from the medical community of his time, and was branded insane and later institutionalized. His work laid the foundation for modern antiseptic procedures, although widespread acceptance of his ideas only occurred after his death.

Those of us who mask to protect ourselves and others can deeply relate. Mask Up. Save Lives.
